The Internet can be a cluttered place on mobile phones. You’ll encounter ads, pop-ups, and unfriendly mobile web design. Reading an article from your favorite content creator can be a chore. Is it difficult to tell where an article ends and an advertisement begins? That is where “reader view” steps in.
It is difficult to tell what is part of the article and not an advertisement? That is where “reader view” steps in.
Today marks the end of your accidental ad-click woes. There is a little trick our trusted technicians like to recommend. Reader View is essentially a stripped-down version of the article. There is just text and images. In your search bar, you will see a pair of A’s or script icon (). This means that there is a Reader View version available for the page you are visiting.
You can also customize how it looks to suit your preference. This can make reading in darker environments a lot easier on the eyes. Phone users who have trouble with small text can nudge up their font size too. To return to the normal article, just tap the search bar icon again. And there you have it.

Have you noticed that it has become increasingly difficult to charge your phone? Do you need to hold your charging cable at weird angles just to make a connection? Wrapping or forcing your cable to charge are temporary fixes that can be harmful to your phone. Fortunately, there is a fix. It just might not be what you think. To answer the question, “Why Did My Phone Stop Charging?” we have to first shift our focus to a place that millions of people have in their very homes. The laundry room.
Yes. Pocket-lint. We have worked on hundreds of phones with “broken charging ports”. A few of our customers have visited us after Apple told them they needed an expensive repair or even a new phone.
Over time pocket-lint and dust build up in the bottom of your charging port. As a result, every time you charge your phone, the lightning cable compacts the lint. Compacted in such a way that even canned air or duster can’t dislodge the debris. To remove the debris we need a narrow and rigid tool. Toothpicks will not work. If you don’t feel comfortable cleaning your charging port, bring it by one of our shops. We do charge port cleanings for free.
If you don’t feel comfortable cleaning your charging port, bring it by one of our shops. We do charging port cleanings for free.
Unfortunately, we do see phones that have damaged charging ports that can’t be fixed by a simple cleaning. Since these ports are one of the most vulnerable spots of your device, they can be affected by the elements of day-to-day life. As a result, your phone may need a charging port flex cable repair. All of our shops are equipped to do these repairs on-site. Don’t be stuck wondering, “Why Did My Phone Stop Charging?”. We have the solution for you.

The Apple Watch goes everywhere you go. It assists you in counting steps or can even help you find your iPhone that was lost under a couch cushion. But like it’s big brother, the iPhone, the battery ages and can be easily damaged. Unlike a smartphone, the watch is strapped to your wrist. This makes it even more exposed to the elements and potential damage. Like our manager Neal Dexter explained to USA Today, mobile electronics are getting more fragile and easy to break. Especially so with wearable tech. That is where Jet City Device Repair steps in. Our techs are proud to help and start offering the Apple Watch Repair.

Another pervasive board-level issue is duping a growing number of Apple iPhone owners. In the past, users ran into iPhone 6+ touch issues which became known as Touch Disease. A surprising amount of iPhone 7 owners are now reporting problems with various audio functionalities. Users will first notice their microphone not working while making phone calls. The fault is known at the C12 pad on the audio integrated circuit chip. Technicians now commonly refer to it as the ‘Audio IC’ or ‘Loop disease’. It is unclear whether the issue is a manufacturer defect or due to regular wear of the device. Apple was recently hit with a class action lawsuit because of this particular issue. Fortunately, our technicians at Jet City Device Repair have the fix.
A common indicator of Audio IC disease is an error when using the voice memo app. Reports mention a grayed-out record button or an error message that reads ‘Recording Failed. No audio device found.’ Users also notice their microphone not working during phone calls. The speakerphone and Facetime icons also become grayed-out on your callscreen. Many users have also reported their iPhone won’t turn on. Others state very long boot up time when powering up their devices. An Apple icon will seem to hang for minutes on end before finally powering up all the way.

Disclaimer: This repair is not for the faint of heart. If you do not have any soldering experience, we recommend not attempting the repair. A small misstep could leave your phone permanently damaged. While the issue doesn’t directly affect your internal storage, we always recommend backing up any important data.
The problem exists not because of the IC chip itself, but with its connection to the logic board. First, we must desolder and remove the IC chip. Next, we clean the remaining pads and install a jumper to the C12 pad. The jumper creates a more reliable permanent repair because it makes a connection to where C12 runs to even if the pad can’t make that connection. Once installed, we must re-ball the IC-chip in order for it to fasten back to the logic board. The IC-chip must also be oriented and aligned accurately for all of the contacts to meet. This process helps to close the gap that causes all these audio issues.
The technique takes a trained hand and the proper tools to be successful. Jet City has the equipment and know-how to reverse this problematic issue. Contact us today and we can help return your phone back to normal.
