A common question people ask: “Why the name Jet City Device Repair?” Since we fix so many iPhones and iPads, people wonder why not something more Apple related like iDevice Repair or iSeattle Repair or iRock At Fixing Things.
We just received a 1-star review on Google My Business for our Chicago Loop store because we don’t fix the type of phone that someone owned. I responded to the person’s review and thought I’d post my response here as well because this is a question/complaint we do get from time to time.
The really important thing to note in this post is one of our core philosophies: We only do things we can be great at, and we are great at the things we do.
I bought an iPhone 5 right after it came out and was pretty happy with it until about a month ago when I updated to the latest Apple system release – iOS 9. This particular upgrade was a major downgrade in my smart phone experience.
We recently had to raise the price of our iPhone 5, 5C & 5S screen repair pricing by $10 for both the glass only and LCD repair.
We hate to do this but it had to be done because there is a major shortage of the iPhone 5 series LCD screens in the market and the prices have gone up over 40% in just the last 3 weeks and may go up even higher.
If you’ve ever posted on Craigslist you know: Craigslist can suck. It gets exponentially worse when posting a job position. You will get this kind of response: “I want 2 work for u.” Really? That’s how you respond to a job posting? You will also get dozens of emails from headhunters and contractors trying to sell you their service. In general, it can be a huge waste of time that many small business owners don’t have.
That’s why I was so happy about a month ago when I received the following response to the Craigslist post we put out for our repair technicians:
It’s just a cell phone repair job, dude. Relax.
Craigslist job posting success! You see, a good post has 3 major objectives:
- Deter people of low ambition and/or talent.
- Filter out solicitors so you don’t even have to bother with them.
- And the most important goal: Find a great employee.

Jet City Device Repair started in a basement in 2007. In 2008 it became a full-time business with two partners. The first employee was hired in the spring of 2010. Today we have over 20 employees at 6 stores in 2 cities and have fixed well over 100,000 devices.
And now for another big step: We’ve created a new division at Jet City Device Repair dedicated to helping schools get their iPads & Chromebooks fixed. Continue reading “Launching our School iPad & Chromebook Repair Division”
Everyone loves to save money. We love our customers.
What do those two things have to do with each other? Besides working constantly to find ways to reduce our prices, we’ve also offered several discounts over the years. Most of these have never been publicized so I figured now was the time to put them all in one place to help you, our customer, save some money.
“Help! I just updated my iOS and now my iPhone’s Wi-Fi is grayed out and not working.”
This is a real problem that our customers ask us about and the internet is full of various threads addressing this. Even Apple has a page dedicated to trying to help people with this. Their solution on that page is pretty simple – just reset your network settings. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to work very often and Apple’s second solution, if your phone is out of warranty, is to buy a new iPhone.
We have another option.
About 18 months ago we announced that we were fixing Samsung Galaxy S3 screens – our first Samsung phone repair. Since then we’ve added the Galaxy S4 & S5 and Samsung Note 2 & 3. All of these repairs include the parts, labor, and a lifetime warranty. Most of these repairs can be done in 2-3 hours (same day repair service if you come into one of our stores).
But it gets even better: You can now get your Samsung glass replaced for 10%-30% less. Continue reading “Even More Inexpensive Samsung Phone Repairs”
